Printing high resolution Jpegs

B

Brad

I've noticed that Word is not printing my high resolution
Jpegs correctly. The image displays correctly in the
document and in print preview, but when I print it, the
image is shrunk verically so that the image prints
multiple times within the space allocated in the document
for the picture.

Is there a way to get my 3000x2000 and larger resolution
images to print correctly without changing the resolution?

Thanks,

Brad

Do you know what cause the cause of the problem is? I've
noticed that it seems to be a combination of factors. I
can switch to another computer and it appears to print
okay from there, at least if I have just the one image in
a document.

I had enable printing directly to the printer on another
printer that was having the same problem and that fixed
it. However, it slows it down so much that I would
prefer another option.

Is it a matter of not having enough memory, or just
needing to change a registry setting?

Thanks,

Brad

Hi, Brad. In Word, click on Tools | Options | Print |
uncheck the "Background printing" box. If the problem
persists, then in Windows click on Start | Control Panel
| Printers | <right-click on your printer> | Properties |
Advanced, and disable advanced text services and/or print
spooling, or enable printing directly to printer.

Hi, Brad. Sorry, I'm not enough of a computer geek to understand why this occurs... I just know how to get around it when it does.

Thanks for the reply. At least that is one way that
works.

I wish I did. It is one of the most infuriating problems I deal with. It's
not *that* much trouble to disable print spooling, but it would be easier if
it could be done in the printer Properties from Word's Print dialog;
unfortunately, that Properties tab (for my HP DJ 6122) is available only
from the Printers folder. And it wouldn't be so bad if I could leave that
setting enabled, but I don't want the printer processing to be in the
foreground all the time.

The problem seems to be limited to HP printers, so I suspect it's an HP
driver problem (but I doubt that you could get HP to admit this, and I had a
long and very unproductive "chat" with HP tech support on this issue). Other
workarounds that have been suggested are to edit the picture in Word (I
haven't tried that, but I can attest that just cropping it doesn't help) or
to rename the file with a .jpeg extension (instead of .jpg).
