Printing is verrrrrry slow since I upgraded to Windows XP

Ever since my IT guy upgraded my system to the XP operating system, my
printing is extremely slow. When I hit the button, the little box pops up
that says "printing" and it just hangs there.

Any ideas for me? This is driving me NUTS!

Hope you upgraded your memory as well !

Just a reminder that XP is no small thing !

I had XP before, but they just upgraded me to the newest version of XP. No
memory was upgraded.
Would that cause it to just "hang" forever when I send the print job to the
printer? It's extremely slow and my IT guys are telling me that they're
waiting on a Microsoft "patch" of some sort.
I think they're full of it, but maybe you can verify if there is such a
patch in the works, or if I'm being blown off.
Thanks for your response Patrick!

revise the updates that have been done
there were some windows updates that caused slow printing
but I thought it was only the win2k updates
never the less, it could be the same case for winxp

I'm trying to get them to upgrade me to 512 mb memory. Do you think that
will work?

the only real question with XP is how much memory can u give me?

256MB is the minimum requirement

minimum means : barely functionning

i would go to 512Mb, and if you're programming and compiling a lot, get 1Gb

I too am having problems with XP Pro w/SP2 & Office (WORD in particular) XP
(2002) printing at a snail's pace. Other programs print fine and memory is
not an issue (240MB available with word loaded). Small doc (24 pages). My
other XP Pro/SP2 machine uses Office 2003 and has no such issue. Other office
programs seem slow as well, but word is unusable (many minutes per page). It
is so slow that the operating system sees it as hung. It uses very little CPU
time, so some sort of timeout or other wait is involved. I have uninstalled
and reinstalled with no change.

When you uninstalled, did you restart your computer? Try removing the
application then shutting down your computer. Wait 10 seconds or so to clear
buffers then restart. I have had problems in the past re-installing software
unless I did this. I suspect some files may still be in memory and are
therfore not "Replaced".
