printing page numbers in header prints 1 of 1, 2 of 2

I inserted page numbers (x of y) in header. It appears properly in screen,
but prints 1 of 1, 2 of 2 and so on.

The Total Number of Pages field (NUMPAGES) does not print correctly in
Word 2000
