Printing problem using Office XP as I cannot print word or excel documents.
Received emails print, old word docs print but not new ones.
I reinstalled printer and updated driver but nothing corrects problem.

What happens when you try to print from Word or Excel? Error message?
Nothing at all?

Is it possible that Word and Excel are defaulting to using a different
"printer"? There might be a number of different defined devices that
Word/Excel considers printers. Choose File - Print, and make sure that the
selected printer is the one you think you're using.

Thanks for your reply. There is only one printer involved. What happens when
I click print, it goes thru the printer and acts like it is printing but the
page is bare.

I have tried removing Office entirely and reinstalling all to no avail.

The mystery is why do emails print, old word documents print but new docs do
not!

This is also true for a networked notebook using the same office software.

Has this printer ever worked correctly with Word and Excel?

I had a similar problem with my old HP1200 a while back. The "solution" was
to use an entirely different printer driver (for a printer that was similar
to the HP1200 in capabilities, but not identical). This allowed me to use
the printer, and eventually, a much later printer driver was released that
worked correctly (although, several intermediate drivers did not).

What printer is this?

HP Deskjet 882C. An interesting side. I just tried to print a r3ecipe for my
wife off the internet but is spit out a bank page yet I printed other stuff
earlier today off the net.

In my case, I had to experiment with a number of different printer drivers
before finding one that did not contain the same bug as the driver for the
HP1200. This is a problem I've seen with several HP deskjet printers,
though.

Another thought is to make sure that all service packs for Office XP have
been installed... althought, that won't help if you're getting the probme in
your web browser now, as well.

....I'm assuming that you've tried rebooting.

Thanks Herb, I will try other drivers in the HP 880 series and see whta
happens. I 'll keep you posted on my results

think its a glitch in Office that may not be repairable.

Other printer drivers do not work either.

What version of Office XP are you running? Have you applied all of the
service packs?

From your earlier posting

"HP Deskjet 882C. An interesting side. I just tried to print a r3ecipe
for my wife off the internet but is spit out a bank page yet I printed
other stuff earlier today off the net."

This would indicate that there is a problem outside Office.

Bob,

Any suggestions?

I know its not the printer and I suspected an office issue but now you raise
an interesting thought.

The problem is "How do I trouble shoot it?"

E

etsharold

herb,

I am running office professional Version 10.0.6626.0.

To the best of my knowledge all of the service packs and updates are current.

Here is a "trick" that has cleared "mysterious" HP printer behavior for
me on occasion.

Open the printer "printing preferences" in Start menu, Settings,
Printers and faxes. Find "Advanced" button(or Tab), Look for "Document
Options" and set "Advanced printing features" to "Disabled".

Bob,

It worked. I tried it on my desk unit and then on my wifes lap top and they
both worked.

Thanks for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

E

etsharold

herb,

It's fixed. See the Bob 1 note about disabling the advanced printing feature.

Thanks for your help. Also greatly appreciasted.

Bob, you're a genius. I've struggled for weeks and weeks trying to get my
home network printer to stop churning out blank word documents but produce
normal works and web documents. I very nearly bought a new printer !
My problems are now over and I'm richer than I would have been.
Merry Christmas
Dave
