pro rata calculation

i have got a spreadsheet where there are 3 coloumns-start date,end date and
volume.
if for example start date is 20th jan and end date is 3rd feb, i have to
calculate the volume on the prorata basis..like some volume in jan and the
rest in feb....
its a very crucial problem for me as i might get promoted if i solve this.

pls help

Humm, if a promotion is based on the result, then you may want to review
"add and subtract dates" in the Excel Help.
