PRO11.MSI missing; found renamed msi file not accepted

Q

Quester

While trying to install an update to Office Professional 2003, I received an
error message that PRO11.msi could not be found. Searching my hard disk, I
found the Office Pro msi in C:\WINDOWS\Installer\20f634.msi

Unfortunately, when I point the update installer to this file, it does not
accept it. I no longer have the Office installation CD. Any suggestions for
how to get around this problem ?

Locate missing .msi files
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011185721033.aspx
An .msi file is a database of all the files, settings, and configuration
information for the associated application. When you install Office on your
computer, the .msi file is saved in a hidden folder. Without this file,
Windows Installer cannot update your configuration, install optional
features, or apply software updates. Office cannot be installed, repaired,
or updated if the .msi file is not found

I have the same problem. I had installed Office 2003 on the new lapto
running Vista with no problems whatsoever. However, when I tried use th
document image under MS office 2003 - it advised me that my pro11.ms
filing was missing. Then I was no longer able to any of the office 200
components and that error kept coming up.

I have my installation disk so under browse I locatd the file under th
ms office 2003 folder. I entered the path in the browse box and i
accepted it but then it asked me to insert the CD which I did. However
it kept asking me to put in the installation disk even though it was th
cd driver. I 'retried' it several times and then it told me to refer t
a specific path but when I tried to search that my system....it wouldn'
come up.

Any suggestions
