Probelms with MS Office Word 2003

I've been using Office 2003 for a while now but I've just started having
problems with Word when I open it. The window opens with a grey blank page,
apart from taking ages to open, and nothing happens. I try again and the
same thing happens. When I make another atempt it opens properly, but why do
I have to make more than one atempt before it opens? Should I reinstall?

Thanks in advance.

the "detect and repair" option
is a better option than a complete
uninstall and a re-install, however,
this is an option as well.

but what you might also
want to do is to see if office is
trying to connect to the web upon
launching the word program.
if so this can be one cause that
contributes to stalling.

go to menu bar in word, then tools
then options. somewhere in
there is a button for services.

open that dialog and uncheck / disable
anykind of web interfacing/interactions.

..Dear db, I wanted to say thanks for the advise. I tried what you said and even did the 'detect and repaire' thing. Although it wasn't able to complete the 'detect and repair' thing something worked and it opens quicker now.

ok, that's good.

what you might want to do
also do is to delete words
prefetch file and let windows
rebuild it.

so close Word, then copy and paste
the line below into
a browser or in my computer
in order to navigate to the following:

C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch

then delete the file called
WINWORD.EXE
then close explorer.

afterwords close and
relaunch word a few times
and see if the third time it
opens lickity split, thereafter.

I think that in your situation with opening grey blank page, better try
use next program 'word repair'
(http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/repair_word.html), because over this
reason your text files will may be corrupted. So far as i know this
tool can fix doc files version Microsoft Word 95, 97, 2000, 2007,
repair word files through network and have some other possibilities.

I heard about tool, better it-'repair word 2007'
(http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/word_recovery.html), sometimes these
files contain tens of pages with critical, sometimes confidential data,
all operations take only several minutes and are performed in three
mouse clicks, can work with .doc, .docx, .dot and .dotx files and with
any version of Microsoft Word text editor, tool can recover only plain
text, it means, that text formatting, graphics and all other elements
will be lost, tool can recover your data from corrupted *.doc files,
located on corrupted media: floppy and CD disks, flash and zip drives,
etc.
