Problem Deleting Tasks

I cannot delete tasks associated with an email which has been deleted or
archived - get error message "cannot open this item. the message you
specified cannot be found." Anyone know a solution to this?

Outlook 2007 I assume?
You mean flagged messages that show up in your To-Do List?
Start Outlook with the resettodobar switch;
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /resettodobar
