Problem deploying Project Server on existing SharePoint Site

Eric Chatham

Hello,

I am trying to install Project Server 2007 on our existing SharePoint 2007
server. I get to a certain point in the installation of Project Server 2007
and it prompts me to check a box "Install SharePoint Product and
Technologies" to continue. Do I check that box? If I do, will my existing
SharePoint site be wiped out on the SharePoint Server with a fresh
installation of SharePoint? I have not completed the installation of Project
Server because I fear by checking this box, I will lose my current SharePoint
site. Please help me! Thanks.

I also read these articles but they don't give me any insight to a solution.

Hey Eric,

You dont need to worry about it, you have to run the wizard after installing
the Project Server Binaries as they mentioned in the Technet Articles.
"Install Project Server 2007 binary files to a server in an Office
SharePoint Server 2007 farm
Navigate to the installation location for Office Project Server 2007, and
then double-click the Setup.exe file to begin the setup process.

On the Enter Product Key page, type the 25-character product key, and then
click Continue.

On the End User License Agreement page, view the terms of the agreement.
Select I accept the terms of the agreement, and then click Continue.

When installation of the binary files is completed, the Setup Complete page
is displayed and prompts you to complete the configuration of your server.
Verify that Run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard
now is selected, and then click Close.

Note:
If you choose to run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration
Wizard at a later time, click to clear the check box, and then click Close.
To start the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard later,
click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Office Server, and then
click SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard.

Run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard
After installing the Project Server binary files on a server in the farm,
you need to run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration
Wizard.

The optimal time to run the wizard is right after installing the binary
files to the server. This needs to occur on each server in the farm. It is
also important not to concurrently run operations on a server in the farm
while running the wizard on another server in the farm.

To run the wizard, perform the following steps on the server after
installing the binary files:

Run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard
After you start the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration
Wizard, the Welcome to SharePoint Products and Technologies page appears,
stating that the wizard will upgrade SharePoint Products and Technologies.
Click Next.

Click Yes to the message alerting you that specified services might need to
be restarted or reset during the installation. These services will include:

Internet Information Services

Windows SharePoint Services Administration Service

Windows SharePoint Services Timer Service

In the Completing the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration
Wizard page, the configuration will point to the existing configuration
settings for the Office Project Server 2007 farm. Click Next to start the
configuration process.

When configuration is finished, the Configuration Successful page displays
the configuration settings. Click Finish. This automatically opens Central
Administration.
"
So feel free to run the wizards. It will not do anything wrong with your
Sharepoint sites.
Hope this will solve the problem.

Thanks

Hi Vickey,

Thank you for your reply. When I went back to do the installation, I got an
error. I think maybe because I already completed the installation of the
binaries and left the box for "Install SharePoint Product and Technologies"
unchecked. Can I still run the "SharePoint Products and Technologies
Configuration Wizard?" If so, which option should I select to install
Project Server 2007: Basic, Advanced, Repair or Upgrade? Thanks, again.

Hi Eric,

If you installed the Project server binaries and did not run the Sharepoint
Wizrads then no need to install the binaries once again simply run the
wizards again.
it will show the all setting to you. you no need to worry about the setting.

hope this will solve the issue.

thanks
