problem entering product key for Office

I purchased a new Dell with Office home and student pre-installed. When I
start up Word, it asks me for the product key, which I found on the CD that
came with the machine. As soon as I enter the first character of the product
key, the "continue" button becomes inoperative - it is not clickable. When
the field in which the product key is entered is blank, the "continue" button
is clickable, but naturally it does not regeister the product when I click,
since the product key field is empty. field is empty.

I am assuming the CD case is the case that your copy of the Office Home and
Student CD is in and NOT the CD that is labeled something about recovery or
the like. Most of the time the preinstalled H & S program is a trial and the
key for that will be on separate paperwork. It is a Microsoft CD case for
Office? Did you pay extra for the H & S license? If so, what happens if
you enter all the 25 characters from the case?

Entering all the 25 characters did the trick. I guess I did not get them all
in correctly before. Thanks for your help
