Problem importing XLS or CSV files

Having opened a new blank database, import table does not work for opening
data Excel data in either XLS or CSV file. The dialogue box titled
mx_FrmMain : Form opens but the form is totally devoid of any data.

No idea what might be happening. No, seriously, unless you tell us that:
1. you try running an import (File|Get External Data|Import)
2. you select "CSV" as a file type
3. you select an Excel file
4. you get an error message (or import errors, or ...)
we don't have a way to know what's happening.

Jeff, thanks for that. I have since worked out there must be a data glitch
in the large spreadsheet that was the intended source. That must prevent
Access from importing the file.

Yes I was running an import (File|Get External Data|Import) and the file was
an XLS Excel file. Also tried same data as CSV.

The work around that seems to work was to LINK instead of IMPORT the table
and all seems to be working.
