What are these options which are available under admin -> Customize Project
Web access menu. Please explain.

Non Managed Periods - Allow Project and Project Web Access users to update
actuals.
Managed Periods - Allow only Project Web Access users to update actuals
during open periods.

We are also facing problem while entering timesheet, where actuals are Work
effort is getting changed also after removing the timesheet entery also, the
work effort change is remaing even wiyhout saving the changes.

Please guide us how we can solve this problem.

Also we are trying to get the timesheet report to see who haven't entered
the timesheet and who have entered the timesheet. Please let me know.

Early response appreciated.

Thanks Dale for your response.

How can I get the Version of the Project Server installed on my system. We
have installed Service Pack 1 for Project Server 2003. We are also having
Windows Share Point services on this integrated with Project Server on Win
2003. I saw a atricle on Microsoft which says that these are the bugs which
are fixed in Service Pack 1.

The following are the problems which we are facing. It shows the article
numbers and the issue, all these are fixed in Service Pack 1 accroding to
Microsoft. But after installing Service Pack still we are facing these
problems.

840376 Actual Work that is submitted by the local resources may be lost when
you synchronize a project that uses Protected Actuals and local resources in
Project 2003

839632 Finish date of project plan may change in Project 2003

840314 Task data may disappear or value custom field values in a task may be
missing when you make changes to enterprise custom fields in your Master
Project File in Project 2003

839636 Assignment delays change the Finish date of a project plan in Project
2003

and

The Timesheet view of the Actual Work field and the Work field display
incorrect values before you update the Timesheet view

Please clarify, it looks like it is critical bug which can stop us being
user of project server. please provide resolutions.

Thanks,
Vani

Vani,

One thing you might want to look at is the task type of your tasks. If your
tasks are set for Duration and you receive actual hours against it, I've seen
strange reactions. Also check your constraints on your tasks.

HI Dale,

We are still facing the problem with Timesheet entry in PWA. If you can give
me ur ID then I can send the screenshots to explain this problem more better.

Anyway I will try to explain as much as possible -

1. I am publishing the Project Plan having one of the task as "HLD 1.0" with
duration say "10 hrs" ( duration has been set to hrs from days). Say this
task is assigned to "Sam".
3. Now "Sam" is trying to enter the timesheet against the task "HLD 1.0",
say he will enter 20hrs instead of 10 hrs for this task. Now he wants to make
20hrs back to 10hrs. So he is entering 10hrs. But the "work" column which is
shown under "View my Tasks" in Timesheet format, shows 20hrs even after
changing the timesheet entery to 10hrs. Even I tried logging off and coming
back to page but still it shows 20 without even clinking on "Save changes"
button. Samething happens even when the entery is removed completely for a
particular task.
4. If the entry is removed completely, the number of task approval which are
sent to manager will include this removed entry as well. So overall, without
saving, just by entry the updation is happening in the grid which is creating
all these problems.

Please give us the solution for this, since this is changing the project
plan itself.

Thanks,
Vani

HI Dale,

Still we are looking for solution for this problem. Please help us. This is
being a critical problem, we are wondering about using Project Server for
Project Management.

I cheched all the all dlls versions, it is the latest based on the link for
Service Pack1 for Project Server 2003. But the dlls list without the version
are there on the server. Let me know how to go abt this problem.

Early response is appreciated.

Thanks,
Vani

If the team member mistakenly enters 20 hours of Actual Work, then Project
Server assumes that 20 hours of Work are required to perform the task.
Remember the following formula:

Work = Actual Work + Remaining Work
20 hours = 20 hours + 0 hours

If the team member, then changes the 20 hours of Actual Work to 10 hours,
now the software assumes the Work is still 20 hours as follows:

Work = Actual Work + Remaining Work
20 hours = 10 hours + 10 hours

To remedy this situation, the team member should decrease the Remaining Work
value accordingly. The problem is not with the software. Hope this helps.

HI Dale,

Thanks for the response.

It seems like bug because it is changing the Project Plan, if the user does
not notice this and do the change to Remaining hrs. If the User does not
remember the number hrs allocated to then Project Manager will be wondering
how the Plan is changed.

Please let us know how we can go abt this not using the work around of
editing remaining hr which does not provide exact solution.
Expecting the response at the earliest.

Thanks,
Vani

I don't answer newsgroup posts on demand. If you wish support, contact our
company to set up a support contract.

I have answered your question the best I can. The solution to your issue,
in my estimation, is to provide training for your team members on how to use
the system properly and how to correct their mistakes if they make a
mistake. It seems you are expecting the software to intervene when people
make a mistake, which isn't going to happen. If I enter 20 hours of Actual
Work when I meant to enter only 10 hours, how could the software ever know
that what I did is a mistake? Given this fact, I think it is up to team
members to input their numbers correctly, and it is up to project managers
to reject tasks that are unrealistic. Hope this helps.
