Problem managing task details

I am having difficulty with capturing actuals and modifying task details as the project moves foreward

I capture the Duration (in days), Planned Hours (in hours) and Resources assigned for each tas
I baseline the project (all tasks
When I modify the Planned hours, the Duration automatically changes (I don't want this
When I modify the Duration (in days), the Planned Hours automatically changes (I don't want this
I don't want the Duration or Planned Hours to automatically change; rather, I want the % of time assigned to each named resource to automatically update
I would also like the % of time assigned to each Resource to automatically update when changes to the Resources assigned changes (i.e., assume an even % of time for each Resource

What settings must be changed from the default to make the aforementioned work or me?? I currently have my Tools | Options | Schedule | Default Task Type set to Fixed Duration; though I have tried all three options.

You are suffering from beginners sickness. You need a good
training on resource management, or another software like
Systemik Manager (from Stk Management), a resource add-in
for MS Project.
You need to understand that units, duration and work are 3
linked data in Microsoft Project. Chose "fixed work "or
fixed duration according to which data you change :
duration for the first, and work for the second. Say Ok,
then you can make your change accordingly.
