Problem Moving Email from INBOX into IMAP folders

B

Brent Sallee

Hi Entourage Community.

I am working with a client (let's call him Mike) who is using the
latest version of Entourage (v. 12.1.4) on a Mac running 10.5.5. He
has four email accounts (two IMAP accounts with Go Daddy, 1 private
IMAP account w/ a email provider from Canada, and an IMAP Gmail
account).

My client is having an issue with moving and storing emails from his
Inbox to the subfolders (In the various email accounts). Example:
let's say that Jim Johnson sends Mike an email to his Go Daddy email
account #1. Mike wants to store this email in the Jim Johnson folder
located in the Go Daddy #1 IMAP account. He drags and drops it to
that folder and it disappears from the Inbox and appears in the Joe
Johnson folder. Great - that works.

Now, let's say that George Jackson sends him and email to his Go Daddy
#1 account and Mike wants to store this email in the George Jackson
folder stored in the Go Daddy #2 account? If Mike drags and drops
this email into the George Jackson folder, the email never leaves the
Inbox on Go Daddy #1 but does appear in the George Jackson folder on
GD #2 account. Hence the problem!

Our goal is when an email is moved from the inbox in one account to a
folder in account account it truly moves not duplicates or copies.

My client had this working great in Apple Mail but since moving to
Entourage it hasn't worked. Any help you can offer would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,
Brent

Hi Brent!

From what you've written I believe Entourage is working as expected.

Messages moved between folders in the same IMAP account will *move*.
Messages moved between IMAP accounts will *copy*.

You can reverse this behavior using modifier keys.

To copy a message between folders of the same IMAP account hold the
Option key as you drag the message. To move a message between IMAP
accounts hold the Command key as you drag the message.

If I've misunderstood, please let me know.

Hope this helps!
