Problem Provisioning Project Server on Farm

K

Kim Ford

Hi,
I have an existing Office SharePoint Server 2007 SP1 installation.

I wanted to add a Office Project Server 2007 SP1 to the farm. To do this, I:

1) Created a new server with:
a. Windows 2008 Standard
b. Patched everything

2) Installed per this document:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc197558.aspx

a. I used a complete install of Office Project Server on the new PROJECTSRV

b. The SHAREPOINT server took the installation without asking the type.

My problem is that when I get to the step #4, where it says:

Provision the Project Server 2007 site on the farm

....

4. On the home page for this core service, in the Project Server section,
click Project Web Access Sites.

....

My SSP is called SharedServices1, I’ve got two web-applications under that
12065 (MySite) and 80 the default SharePoint portal.

Where do I find the “home page for this core service?†Using
http://projectSRV re-directs me back to http://sharepoint.

I must be missing a step or something here but I can’t figure it out.

Thanks in advance for any advice/help.

Regards,

Kim

I am not 100% what your asking... if you're looking for the menu link
for creating a PWA site then its in
Central Admin -> Shared Services Admin <SSP Name> -> Project Web
Access Sites -> Create PWA Site

If the "Project web access sites" option is not in the SSP Admin page
then the joining of the new psvr app server to the farm has not been
completed correctly.

Hi C_A_D,

Thanks for the reply.

It seems like I may have bigger problems...

When I go to Central Administration > Application Management > Manage this
Farm's Shared Services, I see:

-SharedServices1 (Default)
SharePoint (12065)
SharePoint (80)

If I try to edit the properties of -SharedServices1, I get the following
error:

An unhandled exception occurred in the user interface.Exception Information:
The site with the id 745a3ba7-d247-4267-8e09-39fcf21acab7 could not be found.

That seems bad... from what I read, I'll have to create a new SSD.

What do you think?

Thanks again for your help.

Regards,

Kima

Kim:

Did you add a new server to the existing farm? If so, did you install the
Project Server binaries on the existing server as well? It is essential that
all servers on the farm have the same software installed.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, first I quiesced the farm. Then I installed Project Server on the
ProjectSRV server. Then I installed Project Server on the SharePoint server.

Then I "un-quiesced."

I have the feeling that there is something wrong with my SSP, and that this
is a bigger problem than just a Project problem. I cannot edit the
properties on the default SSP, SharedServices1.

Any thoughts on how to resolve this? I've read that creating a new SSP may
be the answer.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the response (again).

I’ve been hesitant to do so as I don’t know the ramifications of recreating
the SSP.

When I go create a new SSP, I’m asked for a Web application (directly under
the New SSP name) and a My Site application. Mine are SharePoint 80 and
SharePoint 12065 respectively, and they are the only two that I have
associated with the presently existing SSP.

Will these somehow magically copy over to the new SSP on creation without
the whole thing blowing up? I’m leery to trust that this will work without a
hitch.

Thanks,

Kim
