Problem w/inserting 11x17 page in middle of document

In using 2002, I'm trying to insert an 11x17 landscape
page in the middle of a document. The landscape part
worked fine with adding section breaks before & after the
page but the 11x17 size is not working, even after my
typing those specs into Page Layout.
Is this even possible?
TIA!

It is only possible if the current printer driver will accommodate that
paper size. Documents are formatted to the printer driver.

Regina,
I'm interested in this because I'm having similar problems. You shold be
able to create your document with varying page sizes intermingled in the same
file provided that you properly execute the Page Setup dialog and the section
breaks.

I don't understand what you mean by "even after typing those specs...". The
page size setting in Page Setup is a drop down box. That is what you meant
right? You clicked on 11x17, not actually typed "11x17"?

And Graham,
Are you saying that one can only create a document with different page sizes
IF the printer driver supports it? That seems absurd. For example, what if
I'm using a computer with one driver and wish to create a document that will
get printed on another computer connected to a high end multi-paper size
printer? I darn sure ought to be able to do that and NOT be tied to the
currently selected printer driver. And what if my computer is networked and
connected to a dozen different printers? Which driver rules the page setup?

I think page setup and printer driver capabilities are disconnected and you
just misunderstood the question. Regina is just trying to format here
document (and hasn't even discovered the printing issues yet) whereas I AM
trying to print a multi-paper size document on a printer that DOES support it
and have discovered that Word tells the printer to use for ALL pages whatever
paper size the 1st page is, regardless of the section breaks and Page Setups.
THAT question is posted in this forum entitled "printing letter and B-size
in same document".

Between the two of these posts I'll get an answer and hopefully help Regina
in the process :)

Well,
As absurd as it sounds I must admit Graham was absolutely correct. My
apologies for doubting you. The choices available in the Page Setup dialog
are indeed tied to the currently selected printer. And Regina I see now
where you can type in the page size, rather than choose from the drop down.
In fact you would have to do that if the drop down choices (affected by the
printer driver, sigh) do not list the paper size you wish.

Doesn't answer my printing problem but does answer your formatting problem.

Still think you ought to be able to create whatever you want regardless of
the driver on your computer... Sorry for adding noise to the signal.
Regards,
Steve C.

You don't have to have the printer physically present, only the driver; thus
if you need to format for a different printer you need to have its driver
present. The relationship between Word and the printer driver is much closer
than is the case for some applications anbd a document formatted for one
printer will reformat if you change the driver - sometimes radically.

It turns out all I had to do was use the pull-down menu
instead of manually typing in 11x17!
Thank you for your time, Steve & Graham - It sure is an on-
going learning experience w/Word!
Gratefully,
Regina
