problem whit print union

stefano

I have a document where is insered an print union. The data origin is an
usual text file (called DATA01.TXT). There are a lot of data insered,(~50)
but they are visualized without math operation ( or other ).
Why, sometime, entering in the document, at the start I see a screen like
these " Conversion DATA01.TXT". I need to choose the codify(?) between
various format of text(!)
I' ve see that the problem appears if there is one or more data very long
( 20 or more characters)

Hi Stefano

If you try to open a file in Word, and Word does not recognize it as a
Word document (eg a text file), then Word behaves as follows:

1. If the box at Tools > Options > General > Update Automatic Links at
Open is ticked, then Word will do its best to open the file as a native
Word document.

2. If that box is *not ticked*, then Word displays a dialog box asking
how you would like to open the file.

This is quite useful when working in HTML, for example. If the box *is
ticked*, then Word opens the HTML and renders it as a Word document. If
the box is *not ticked*, you can choose to open the HTML as plain text,
and therefore see and edit the HTML coding.

Hope this helps.

I think Shauna meant to refer to the "Confirm conversion at Open" option
rather than "Update automatic links at Open."

I believe your problem, however, is with a mail merge. If this is Word 2002,
the problem could be the way Word is connecting to your data source. This
happens frequently with merges from Excel. For more on that, see
