Problem with background sound

for some reason any sound i insert into my webpage cause internet explorer to
crash about 30 seconds into the sound and loading of the initial page...

i have tried different formats: mp3/wma/asf and all formats cause IE to
crash unexpectedly...if i remove the background sound, IE runs perfectly
fine...

has anyone seen this before?
