Problem with changing % complete and edays in 07

mr. t

New adopter of MS Project 07. I have a project whose saved baseline was
saved originally in MS Project 03. Now that I have MS Project 07, I am
needing to maintain the status of the project. As such I have a task that is
36edays long in duration that was 75% complete. Now its 95% complete and
when I change that % complete to reflect 95%, the edays go to 0edays and %
complete shows 95%. So then I try to reset the edays to 36edays, it won't
let me and looking at the task information I notice that all of a suddend
that task is now marked as a milestone. So I deselected the marked task as
milstone and back on the gnatt view I try again to enter 36edays. No dice,
it reverts back to "marked task as milstone".

This particular task is set to:
Constraint Type: As Soon As Possible
Task Type: Fixed Duration
And effort driven is unchecked.

Please advise on how I can adjust the %complete without affecting the edays.

Hi mr. t,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Entering percentages is not the wisest thing to do in Project. Better to
enter Actual Start, ActualWork and, most importantly, Remaining Work or
Remaining Duration, whence Project will calculate the percentages for you.
You could use Tools/Tracking/Update Task dialog, or View/Table/Tracking.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)
