Where are you clicking the Equation Editor icon? In a Word document? On a
PPT slide? Somewhere else?

Well, don't disable Norton Antivirus altogether, because you
shouldn't be working without some kind of antivirus protection
nowadays. Have you created equations using Equation Editor on
this particular computer before? If not, then maybe the Equation
Editor feature is not installed, and you can install the feature
by clicking on Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs |
Microsoft Office | Change | Add/Remove Features. If so, then try
running Detect and Repair by starting Word and clicking on Help |
Detect and Repair.

Well, since disabling Norton Office Plug-in didn't work, you could try
re-registering equation editor.

Click Start, then Run, then type
"C:\Program Files\Common Filesicrosoft Shared\Equation\eqnedt32.exe"
/regserver
(Include quotes and make sure the path matches your setup.)--
