Problem with Final SHowing Markup View

Whenever I open a Word document that either I created or someone else
sent me it defaults to
the Final View (without showing any changes that are in the document
even
though the author might have intentionally tracked changes). This is
very
problematic because I am not aware that the author has made redline
changes
unless I manually change the view to show the markup. I am running
Windows XP and Word 2003 SP3.

This happens if I am double clicking on a Word document from an email
attachment or opening a document from within Word itself. However, I
am in Word and
then click to open a New Blank Document it does default to show the
Final with Markup.

I see many discussions on the web where people are having the
opposite
problem. They are trying to get rid of the Final Showing Markup view
when a
file opens and show only the Final. But I have not found a discussion
where
someone is having my problem.

I have spent a fair amount searching on line. I have already confirmed
that
the Make Hidden Markup Visible when Opening or Saving box IS checked
under
Tools Options Security. This is not my problem. Word opens and this
box
defaults to checked. I have also tried to Detect and Repair and found
no
problems. I have also tried reregistering Word to try and repair the
file.

Although I am not a super experienced macro writer, I think I can
probably
write a macro in normal.dot that will correct my issue but it does not
seem
like I should have to.

Thanks.
