Using Word2000 sp3. When I open a doc. and use Ctrl-F ... a little
dashed-lined box comes up from the lower right and then disappears off
the screen to the left?? and there is no find box to use, same with
Ctrl-H. They both work in Excel, but not in Word.
Help?
thanks

fixed my problem but not sure why it worked. Somewhere on the group I
read a post to try starting word in Run.. winword -a. I did that..
and it worked. Then I went back to the shortcut icon on the desktop..
and now the dialog box is there.
Anyone know what went wrong?
thanks.

The registry key that remembers the position of the Find dialog had the
wrong value stored. This might've been due to a corruption issue (that's the
usual cause). It also happens when you've changed screen resolutions since
the last time Word "memorized" the location of the Find box. Hence, when it
tried to call up the "old" location, it was in a nether region that was off
the screen.

When you ran Word with the /a switch, it bypassed the registry "memory" of
the Find dialog's location and reverted to the default location. When you
closed Word, the new location was stored in the registry, and that fixed it.

Sometimes the /a switch is benign, and sometimes it can actually fixed
errors. This is one of those times that it fixes errors.
