Problem with 'Forward as iCalendar'

Appointments forwarded as iCalendar items from my supervisor's Outlook 2003
to mine will not open. Error message speaks of alternate calendars.
Alternate calendars is turned off on both PC's. This method of forwarding
appointments worked properly previously but suddenly does not. Any ideas why?
