Problem with Inserting objects from file in Word XP

I have a problem with Word XP that just started to occur. If I drag
and drop a file or use Insert|Object|From File I get the error "Word
cannot obtain the data for the blah.blah link." I have no idea why
this has stopped working. I've tried all the usual web searches but
can't find a fix.

Anyone have a solution?

Possibly something as simple as Word needs reregistering. From Start, Run
type in

winword /r

and press enter. Test again. If that fails and you have Norton Anti Virus,
open NAV and deselect the Office Plug-in option.

Terry,

Thanks for the follow up. I have already tried this but it doesn't
fix the problem. Oh well I suppose I'll just have to reinstall
Office.

The problem with uninstalling/reinstalling is that many files, add-ins, the
registry settings or COM add-ins are not removed in the process and the
chances are that it won't resolve the problem. You'll also have to
reactivate Office XP by phone.
