Problem with inserting text box in Word 2002

When I attempt to insert a text box by going to "insert" on the tool bar, than "text box" the program is inserting huge drawing box. If I click a second time the text box appears. If I then attempt to delete the drawing box, the text box disappears as well. This problem just started. Before today I had absolutly no problems. ????? Thanks for your help.

Try this.
While in Word, go to the Tools > Options. Select the General tab and you'll
probably see the "Automatically create drawing canvas when inserting
AutoShapes" box is "checked". Un-check it and try it again. Don't know why
it just would have started.....
