Problem with linked styles and TOC

S

Sash Lewis

I'm trying to do two things: (1) use multiple styles per line, and (2) build a table of contents from styles.

I followed the advice in this post (http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/35487521/style-separator.aspx) about how to use more than one style per line. So I've selected the relevant text on each line and styled it using linked styles.

The problem is that none of these styled portions are appearing in my table of contents.

Anyone know what's going on?

Since you haven't told us what version of Word ou are using, "no" we have no
clue what's going on.

Check your TOC field definitions.

Cheers

Sorry -- it's MS Word 2008 for Mac, v. 12.2.3.

Word is building a table from the styles I've selected (H1-H3), but not including any text styled with linked styles. So it's finding styles applied to paragraphs, but not styles applied to portions of single lines.

Right! I had never noticed that before (because I refuse to use Linked
Styles, and now you've given me another good reason why...)

But you're quite right: Linked Styles do not work in a TOC in Word 2008.
They do in Word 2010.

So that would be a "bug". Use Help>Send Feedback to put in a bug report on
that one, and we'll get it fixed for the next version...
