Problem with Microsoft Office Outlook

James

Hi,
I have a problem opening up Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.

When I try opening the program, the following error message shows up.

"Cannot start microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The
set of folders cannot be opened. The file
C:\Users\James\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst is not a personal
folders file.

Any help regarding this issue would be really helpful.
Thank you.

Try the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe located in %ProgramFIles%\Microsoft
Office\Office12). If that doesn't work, then you'll need to restore a backup
copy. You di make backups of your PST, don't you?

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
Nope, no good. Roady left a message too but there is nothing yet there. I
did create a file to see if it helped.
I only installed outlook that day from the 60-day trial and Outlook opened -
filled in the data etc then closed it. On re-opening that's when the errors
start. I installed the trial on an old XP system and there wasn't a
problem - it's got to be this rubbish called Vista that is causing it IMO.
I was advised to restore the laptop as when new, install all available
updates and then try and install the trial. No difference still errors with
Outlook. The other programs (Excel & Word) worked fine though.

Obviously, I want to try and get it to work to have a 'play around' with it
before deciding to buy it. It appears things have changed. I am still using
Office 97 and back in those days, any problems you had were dealt by with
MS. Now, any support needs to be paid for. Stupid since their software
doesn't work to start with.
Any other advice would be most welcome.
James

Outlook 2007 works perfectly on Vista for me.

Well, after anther system restore, all available updates downloaded and
installed, AV disabled and nothing else installed so only the OS is on here.
Re downloaded the 60 day trial, installed and all is fine. Closed Outlook
down, restarted it and guess what? Yup, here we go again.. Office Standard
2007 is configuring and then after 10 minutes the usual crash when it wants
to re-boot.
Looks like I'll be sticking to Office 97 with Outlook 2000.
Thanks anyway,
James
P.S. It's just a pity MS do not offer direct support anymore.

Support is free for 90 days starting with the first call when you purchase a
new product.

Thanks that's good to know. Just have to try and decide if it's worth taking
a chance buying Office 2007 and hope they can fix the problem I am getting
with Outlook.
