problem with multiple startup templates in word

Hi All,

I want to use two different startup template for word (depending on the
group the user is in, the user will see one or two templates). Each template
has its own menu in the menubar. This menu is used for calling macro's. So
far no problem.

The strange thing (strangs for me anyway) is that when a user should see two
different menus, only one will show!

Does anyone have an idea of why this happens?

Thanks in advance,

Cheerio,
Fr@nk

You should be using global templates (Add-Ins) and not changing normal.dot
foro this. Different users can have different Word startup folders.

Charles thanks for your reply, but what you describe is not the problem.
Normal.dot is not changed here, but one or two (depending on the usergroup)
self build templates are placed in the startup folder of word (which is
default: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application
Data\Microsoft\Word\StartUp). The users are not allowed to change the
filelocations of Word.
Each of the two templates have a menu, in which the menu-items call a macro.
The problem is that the display of these two menus is not consistent:
sometimes one menu is shown, sometimes both are shown, while both templates
are in the same folder (and both templates are opened, which you can see when
you open the VBA IDE).

FYI: it's Windows XP SP2 (Dutch), and Office XP with all the security
patches (also Dutch).

Add-Ins often battle for placement of menus. I haven't figured out how to
control it without code.
First, make sure your custom menus are created on custom toolbars, not the
built-in ones. This makes transfer much easier when needed.
You can copy them onto the built-in menus in addition if you need to.

If on custom toolbars, you could have code in each template's AutoExec macro
to display the custom toolbar (make it visible).

I have code in my Add-Ins that have custom toolbars that makes them visible
and gives them a docked location.
