problem with Office XP shortcuts

All of a sudden, all programs in the Office XP suite stopped running. Ehen I
try to launch from the All Programs menu or from the desktop shortcuts, I get
the message "Problem with Shortcut - the specified procedure could not be
found."

When I try to launch from Windows Explorer, I get the message "Excel (or
Word, or whatever) failed to launch in safe mode. Would you like to start
'Detect and Repair,?" Clicking Yes triggers the message that the program
encountered a problem and needs to close.

My Norton Antivirus is up-to-date and a system scan shows no infection.

I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office XP, without effect. Does
anyone have any ideas regarding a remedy?

I don't know maybe have you tried entering directly into cmd> program.exe
Start>Run>type in 'cmd' and then try entering execution thread in dos.
