Problem with RETURN in forms

S

ssmith

I created a form restricting the number or characters in a field, locked the
form and saved as a tempate. It works ok, users can tab from field to field
and can't exceed the field length or change text within the form. But if
they press RETURN at any character position within a field a CR/LF is added
to the form completely screwing up the formatting.
How can this be prevented?

One post is enough.

What you are talking about is what Word calls an "online form." For more
about online forms, follow the links at
http://addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms or
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/FillinTheBlanks.htm especially Dian
Chapman's series of articles. Among these links is one that shows you how to
change the way the Enter key works in your form so that it acts as a Tab
key. You can also put your form fields into limited size frames or table
cells so that if the user presses Enter they can keep typing but what they
type won't show up (or move other stuff around).

Hope this helps,
