Problem with saving in Word 97

I'm running Office 97 under Windows XP Home.
When create a new document in Word, and try to save it, something wired
happens. No matter what filename I put in, it ist saved as X.doc, where X is
the first character in the document I just wanted to save.
When I open the file, I get a blank document.

Thanks for any ideas...

Hi Sönke,

Word 97 will run fine on Windows XP.

The problem here is Compatibility settings for Windows 95 (or other
version of Windows) have been set for Word. Remove the Compatibility
option and all will function correctly. :)
