Problem with Template Preview

S

Satbn

I have uploaded 2 excel templates with "Save Preview" option checked. Still,
the preview image of the templates is NOT the first worksheet but an enlarged
image of a small image placed on the Cell A1.

Any idea what is this issue due to and how to solve this??

I found out what the issue with the preview was. (Thanks for including a
link to an example of one of the problem files. I don't know which thread
that was in, or I'd respond to it.)

Anyway, if no print area is set, the community templates thumbnail generator
takes a snapshot of the first cell. Set your print area, then resubmit your
template and the preview should be fixed.

Hi Echo! That sounds great. I have updated my template and re-submitted.

Though the template is a trusted one, the update seems to have taken the
normal processing route! (I seem to remember reading in this site somewhere
that the updates would be instantaneous in the case of trusted templates!!).
Since the old verison also has to be taken out... I guess it would be a loss
of 2 days :-( Anyway... no other go.. wait & watch :)

Will the download counter get reset when we submit updates??? (I hope not !!)

Thanks again.

I don't recall reading anything about instantaneous updates.

Wait.

On this page,
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/HP101170921033.aspx, it does say
this:

The new version of your template will show up on your profile page as soon
as you submit it.

Does the new version show up on your profile page immediately?

I don't know about the download counter. Good question!

Yes. I did see this note, but somehow what I recall is different. But I may
be wrong since, it was quite sometime back and more over, it was before I had
made my hands dirty with templates! And, yes, it definitely comes on the
profile page immediately after submission (with status "Processing").

Reg download counter... my guess would be it would not reset the counter...
but both ways have their own logical points... so not sure which path has MS
taken :)

Thanks a ton.

In addition to the below post -

The upload that I did with the print area set (and hardly any other

I am at a total loss to understand why...! Is there any any any way to send
a request to Msft and get the actual problem????

So, here's what I now know:

The update should show up in your profile instantaneously, but it still has
to go through the processing before it shows up live on the site.

The downloads counter will be reset when you submit updates. Luckily it's
early on in the process for you, so it's not a huge hit.

Ahh... so sorry about that... what I meant was - hardly any changes that
should matter. I am trying to detail the changes in the 3 versions-

Version A - The earlier accepted version
Version B - The update-1 submitted and rejected
[Update in B over A ] -
Version C - The update-2 submitted that is now available for download!!!
[Update of C over B]
I have a small doubt that the rejection could have been caused because I did
not remove the old version immediately after uploading the new version and I
had taken may be about 40-50 min to do that!

BTW, the preview is now coming up right! Thanks so much on that!

Then why did you say "hardly any other changes"? Were there changes or not?

See, when I email my contacts to ask why your resubmit might have been
rejected, if I tell them "hardly any other changes," they will ask what
specific changes....

In addition to the below post -

The upload that I did with the print area set (and hardly any other
changes!!) has been rejected :-(

I am at a total loss to understand why...! Is there any any any way to
send
a request to Msft and get the actual problem????

:

Yes. I did see this note, but somehow what I recall is different. But
I
may
be wrong since, it was quite sometime back and more over, it was
before I
had
made my hands dirty with templates! And, yes, it definitely comes on
the
profile page immediately after submission (with status "Processing").

Reg download counter... my guess would be it would not reset the
counter...
but both ways have their own logical points... so not sure which path
has
MS
taken :)

Thanks a ton.
-sat

:

I don't recall reading anything about instantaneous updates.

Wait.

On this page,
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/HP101170921033.aspx, it
does say
this:

The new version of your template will show up on your profile page
as
soon
as you submit it.

Does the new version show up on your profile page immediately?

I don't know about the download counter. Good question!

Hi Echo! That sounds great. I have updated my template and
re-submitted.

Though the template is a trusted one, the update seems to have
taken
the
normal processing route! (I seem to remember reading in this site
somewhere
that the updates would be instantaneous in the case of trusted
templates!!).
Since the old verison also has to be taken out... I guess it would
be
a
loss
of 2 days :-( Anyway... no other go.. wait & watch :)

Will the download counter get reset when we submit updates??? (I
hope
not
!!)

Thanks again.

I found out what the issue with the preview was. (Thanks for
including a
link to an example of one of the problem files. I don't know
which
thread
that was in, or I'd respond to it.)

Anyway, if no print area is set, the community templates
thumbnail
generator
takes a snapshot of the first cell. Set your print area, then
resubmit
your
template and the preview should be fixed.

I have uploaded 2 excel templates with "Save Preview" option
checked.
Still,
the preview image of the templates is NOT the first worksheet
but
an
enlarged
image of a small image placed on the Cell A1.

Any idea what is this issue due to and how to solve this??

Yup! Just as you said, the process has now ended and the template is
available for download now! (with proper preview image :) )

And the counter is reset too... so its a loss of about 100+ counts, but
guess it is still worth since this gives a good indication of the content
rather than the earlier one!

I am very glad to hear that! Wow, when I looked, it was at about 40
downloads -- there've been a LOT in the past couple of days. Still, better
for it to happen early in the process.

It sounds like the rejection was a glitch in the system, not anything you
did to the template itself. But I'll pass the information you mentioned
along -- thanks for clarifying it.
