Problem with user logging into Office XP

B

Brian

I have a unique problem that I need some help in fixing. I have a
Terminal Server running Windows 2000 Server and Office XP on it. Here
is the scenario. At this time I have a pc that autologs in with a
generic lock down account. Once this account is logged in, we have
created a small application to prompt for the username to log into
outlook. This application is only used for to do a lookup of the user
account in GAL. Also, this application loads up a PRF file so that it
has all the settings to log into Outlook. The PRF is at the bottom of
this message. This works for all users except users that have an
alias on the network. I.E. TMARTIN and TMARTINEZ. When TMARTIN logs
in, he gets the error "The name could not be matched to a name in the
address list". I get the prompt for exchange server and user account.
I do a check name and then I get the Check Name pop-up box to choose
TMARTIN or TMARTINEZ. I choose TMARTIN it tries to log in but then
gets the error "Unable to open your default e-mail folders." Now,
what is suppose to happen is that the user should get a login prompt
for username, password and domain. It seems that when a user has an
alias in the above scenario it does not use the PRF file settings and
sets it to use NT Password Authentication instead of the logon network
security of none. I can edit the registy at the following location to
prompt for the credentials...HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging
Subsystem\Profiles\Tmartin\13dbb0c8aa05101a9bb000aa002fc45a\00036601\
The entry here shows 14 00 00 00 where instead it should read 1c 00 00
00. Only problem is when I edit the registry at that point it is to
late to find the users mailbox.

Another odd problem. This works fine on Office 2000. Only difference
is that the user TMARTIN gets the Check Name pop up right away instead
of the error message "The name could not be...."

That should do it. If you need more information please let me know...

Figured out how to solve this problem. In the application we use to
pass the username, we instead choose to send the last name, first name
to the %username% in the PRF file. It is more unlikely to have an
alias of this type so this is what we used to fix the problem.

I have a unique problem that I need some help in fixing. I have a
Terminal Server running Windows 2000 Server and Office XP on it. Here
is the scenario. At this time I have a pc that autologs in with a

in, he gets the error "The name could not be matched to a name in the
