Problem with work/actual work calculation

I accidentally entered 4 weeks of "Actual Work" in a resource usage view such
that the task completed. When I realized this, I cleared out the actual work
but now when I add "Work" on a week-by-week basis in the resource usage view,
it automatically sets "Actual Work" to work as if the task is complete. It
seems to want to set the work value to zero out to the prior finish date and
put any new work 4 weeks out. No matter what I do, I cannot seem to get
Project to accept new work in the next 3 weeks w/o also assuming it is
"Actual Work".

Sometimes Project tries to be a bit too smart.

Hi Virtual Fergy,
I guess that you cleared the Actual Work in the yellow cell of the Resource
Usage view.
Instead of that, try to clear this Actual Work in the Actual Work column
that you can insert in the left pane :
Insert / Column...
