Problems Customizing the Risks and Issues Lists in Project Server

J

Jason

If I remove a column from a Risk or Issue list in a project workspace, and
then open the corresponding Project in MS Project Professional and publish
it, the publish fails with an error indicated in the Project Server Queue.
(listed below)

Does anyone know how to get around this? Why does a delete button show on
the list columns if it causes publishing problems when you delete them?

We are in the process of testing migration from Project Server 2003>2007.
We had customized the project workspace template with 2003 and after
migration, none of the projects will publish because we had deleted a few of
the fields. Any suggestions?

Both the fact that I can't use my customized workspace site and that the
columns can be easily deleted (which will cause publishing problems) are very
big issues for me.

Thanks for any help!

If I remove a column from a Risk or Issue list in a project workspace, and

it, the publish fails with an error indicated in the Project Server Queue.
(listed below)
Reporting Wss list sync failed
ReportingWssSyncListFailed

In my experience, this error does not mean that the publish failed. It
does mean that the WSS site for the project is not summarized into the
reporting database, but the remainder of the publish succeeded (unless
there are other errors, of course.)

So, you don't really need to worry about this error unless you are
using the reporting database or OLAP to report on sharepoint sites.

James, thanks for the reply.

This brings up another question. If that's the case, is there a way to turn
off the "Reporting (WSS Sync)" process that occurs when you publish? If it
is going to error every time a project is published, then it might as well be
turned off (if it can be).

Why would Microsoft think that we wouldn't want to customize our lists?

I don't know of a way to turn this off, since the project has an
associated SharePoint site, every publish will try to update the
reporting DB.

Microsoft certainly anticipated that users would modify the sharepoint
templates, but some of the built in reporting is based on the existing
columns. Adding new fields to the template or sites is fine, but you
stepped off the yellow brick road when you deleted fields. Now Project
Server is trying to report on things that aren't there.
