Problems deleting assign task in Project Server

R

Ricardo

Hi,

I´m having a problem with my Project Server.

Whenever I assign a task to someone and some time later I remove the
assignment, the task is no longer asigned to anyone and I cannot delete it.
It works like if it´s still assigned to someone. Because of that I have a
couple of tasks that are marked for deletion, but i´m not being able to.

Does any knows how can I solve this?

Thanks,

When you attempt to delete the task in Microsoft Project Professional, what
steps are you taking, and what happens?

Hi,

I´ve already spoken with my coleague and he told me the steps that he
performs.

When he have a task assign to someone and it has " % Work complete" of 0%
and and for some reason he doesn´t want it anymore, then he deletes it, or if
he has an assign task with " % Work complete" of 100 %, then he puts it with
0% and then he deletes it.
After the deletion, the task is no longer assigned to anyone and he still
can see the task in his project (but only him - the assigner).

Any ideas?

If the PM deletes the task in the actual Microsoft Project plan, then where
does he actually see the task after that?

Hi,

It´s lik this, whenever he deletes the task, when he views the project file
in office project application, it does no longer exists, but when you go to
Project web access, it´s there with a cross and you can´t do anything about
it. He doesn´t want to see it anymore. It there any way to delete the file
viewing in Web Access?

When the PM deletes the task, Project Server displays it as a cancelled task
in the View My Tasks page in PWA for the resource formerly assigned to the
task. The team member should simply select the cancelled task and click the
Hide button. Refer to the following FAQ for an automated procedure to
delete all cancelled tasks from each user's timesheet in PWA:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/deletecancelledtasks.htm

Hope this helps.

Hi,

What you´ve told me was what he already was doing. What happens is with
others (not all) is that the assigned person does no longer view the task,
but the assigner has the task always in his web project. Whenever he tries to
hide, he gets this error:

"You cannot hide this task for one of the following reasons:
*It´s a delegated task that you are lead for.
*It´s a summary task with existing subtasks.
*It´s a nonproject time task defined by the server administrator
*It´s a task transfered from the Outlook"

And when he tries to reject, he gets this error:

"None of the tasks in your selection can be deleted. Reason:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx(the name of the task)
This task is only a tracking delegation copy"

How can I erase them?

Is the deleted task in an Administrative project? Let us know.

Ricardo -

I'm drawing a blank. Would you kindly repost your original question and see
if someone else wants to take a stab at at? Sorry I could not be more help.

Hi Dale,

I've tried using that link you posted and the SQL Query keeps error out
saying MSP_WEB_ASSIGNMENTS does not exist. It says that same error for all
the objects in capital letters in the script. Any ideas?

Are you sure you are running the query on the Project Server database.
Running it on another database would trigger the error you see. Let us
know.

F

Felicity

Yes. I open SQL Query Analyzer, select the database (ProjectServer) so it's
highlighted, copy and paste the second script in the article (so I can see
the outcome before it deletes it), and click Execute Query.

Actually the first error I get is "Incorrect syntax near the keyword
'from'." So I delete the "," next to mr.RES_Name and then Execute Query
again and then get the Invalid object name error for MSP_WEB_ASSIGNMENTS,
MSP_WEB_PROJECTS, and MSP_WEB_RESOURCES.

Use your SQL Server Enterprise Manager software to look at your Project
Server database. Do those tables actually exist? If not, are you using a
split SQL Server database? Let us know.

I'm drawing a blank. I'm not a DBA professionally, so I'm not sure what to
tell you to do next. If the tables exist, then the script should work.
Perhaps you should post your message again, and include the script you are
using. This will allow those who are SQL Server gurus to diagnose what is
wrong. Sorry I can't be of more help to yo.

F

Felicity

Will do. Thanks, Dale.
