Problems/dislikes with Pro 2007 after upgrading from Pro 2000

Susan

Just installed the upgrade from Professional 2000 to Professional 2007.
Am not happy with the results.

1st: Could have sworn I read on one of these MS Office newsgroup that an
upgrade would only upgrade programs of Office already installed from
2000 and leave the 2000 programs that were not included with 2007 alone
- wrong. Specifically I wanted the Short-Cut bar from 2000 to remain.
The short-cut bar is no more. On installing 2007 upgrade, I selected the
"Upgrade" option. Should I have selected the "Custom" option?

2nd: 2007 Access will not open any of my 2000 Access databases!! When
opening alllll of them up pops error messages at the switchboard not
allowing me into any of the databases:

"The expression on click you entered as the event property setting
produced the following error:
The expression you entered has a function name that Microsoft Office
Access can't find.
*The expression may not result in the name of a macro, the name of a
user-defined function of [Event Procedure].
*........ "

Nowwwww this doesn't just happen with my databases but also an Access
2000 sample databases that Microsoft has online for downloading that
presumable should work with 2007 Access for included in the list of
databases/etc... For example:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC010186491033.aspx?CategoryID=CT101172541033

This downloads the file: 01018649.cab > 1018649.mdb Home Inventory database.

On trying to access this inventory database the ***same error***
messages pop up. This is a real downer. If 2000 Access databases are
incompatible with 2007 Access then 2007 Access is useless.

3rd: Dislike the display color/theme of the 2007 programs. I have found
how to change the color in some of the programs, but do not like the
buttons, layout, etc...

I'm on the verge of reverting back to Office 2000, especially if I can't
get Access 2007 to work on Access 2000 databases. If I decide to, will
just uninstalling 2007 via Add/Remove and then reinstalling 2000 work?
By doing it this way, will it deactivate 2007 allowing me possibly to
install it later on 2 other computers.

TIA.

The Office Tool bar is no more, that tool bar will not function with Office
2007, in its place, usually pinned to Your Start Menu, is New Office
Document and Open Office Document. A custom installation would have made no
difference.

The Access 2k db is different from the Access 2007 db
You might want to post to an Access group as to how you convert your old
db's
I went from Access2k to Access 2003 and I had to convert & modify some
coding in my existing db's to conform with Access 2003
The latter versions of Access have all been updated / modified in some way
and routines / functions that run on one may not run in the other untill you
have modified the later version db. As a result theres no point in trying to
download from MS access2k sample db's

As for reverting to Office 2k, its no longer supprted is it, and may not run
without probs on either Vista or Win7

DL, thank you for the reply. I'm really surprised on the short-cut bar
because did find a couple of old messages on the office update group
that said the short-cut bar from 2000 could be installed and work with
Office 2003 such as:

11/26/2003
the Office shortcut bar has been removed in Office 2003. If you want
it back, you need to install a previous version.

Hi, James Wong. Office 2003 does not include an Office Shortcut Bar.
See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=822573 "Office Shortcut Bar Is
Not Included in Office 2003" for suggested workarounds. Additionally,
if you have your CD from Office 97, 2000, or XP, then it is possible
to >install the OSB from the previous version and, if necessary, modify
the >shortcuts to point to the corresponding files in Office 2003.

09/24/2004
Then install it from a previous version of Office

Anyway, I have created a series of shortcut bars in one row/line across
the top of my desktop.
The Access 2k db is different from the Access 2007 db
You might want to post to an Access group as to how you convert your old
db's
I went from Access2k to Access 2003 and I had to convert & modify some
coding in my existing db's to conform with Access 2003

This morning posted the Access problem on the Access conversion board,
but soon found my own answer. It seemed after finally closing all the
error message I got to a Security Warning bar that had disabled the
databases. It had an option to enable them for ***only*** 1 session. By
exploring help pages, etc... discovered how to permanently enable the
databases. The Databases have to be located in a "trusted" folder. By
clicking Office Button > Access Options > Trusted Sites > Trusted Center
Settings > Trusted Locations > enter the name of the folder the
databases are located. Now all the databases open with no error messages
or security warnings.
