problems getting attachments from Macs?

I seem to have problems receiving Word attachments emailed from Macs. The messages arrive, but no attachment and no indication an attachment ever existed. I'm using WinXP and Outlook 2002 over DSL (SBC). The Apple site is worthless in finding out if the problem is on their end.
Any ideas on what's wrong?
