problems importing dbase .dbf files into Access 2003

On a couple of machines that are xp running access 2003,
when I import a dbf file it closes down Access and sends
me back out to the desktop. It's like I just blew Access
up! I get no error messages and no imported dbf file.
Other machines, running the same software are able to
import these same files with no problems. Any
suggestions would be appreciated. I have not reinstalled
the office software, yet. Thanks.
