Problems Importing Photos to PowerPoint

I'm working in PowerPoint 2003. I usually import jpeg photos for my
presentations. In the last month, PowerPoint just is not recognizing the
jpegs and I can't get it to import them. I've tried smaller files, pngs,
gifs, nothing. Is there some standard specks for saving these files that I'm
missing? I don't know why it suddenly isn't recognizing the photos.
