Problems Installing Access 97 on XP Machine

I'm trying to install Access 97 on a new laptop with
Office XP Pro. I've been advised on the ACCESS-L list to
first uninstall the XP version of Access, then install
Access 97 into a different folder than Office XP, then
reinstall the XP version into the Office XP folder. I
uninstalled Access XP and installed Access 97 from an
Office 97 CD which I bought on EBay. During
installation, I gave it the Key on the CD case, and it
gave me a product ID#. I got a message that the
installation was successful, but when I try to start
Access 97, I get the message "Microsoft Access can't
start because there is no license for it on this
machine." I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but got
the same result. What could be wrong???

Very common problem.

Uninstalling Office is trickier than it looks.
There are programs that go back in and clean up the mess left after an
uninstall.
