Problems Installing Mac Office 2008Home/Student Over Mac Office 2008 Trial

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Tried to install Mac Office 2008 Home/Student over an expired Mac Office 2008 Trial and ran into problems, when the application downloaded and tried to install Office 2008 12.2.0. MS Mac Support indicated that I needed to reinstall Snow Leopard. Thought that this was a bizarre solution. Has anyone else ran into this problem? Does anyone have a workaround that they can recommend? Appreciate any and all prompt responses. Many Thanks.

Yes, some users have experienced problems installing the retail version
after installing the trial.

This link was provided by a user and removes everything under the son, but
seems to work.

In case the above link does not work:

Installing Snow Leopard over your current install is like installing a
combo. It install over current install and refreshes files. No reverting
back or erasing to install over.

If you want to try the basics,

Use the ŒRemove Office¹ utility to remove the trial and/or new install, and
do it as an administrative user. "Remove Office" can be found in this
location.

/Application/Microsoft Office 2008/Additional Tools/Remove Office

Delete Microsoft Office 2008 settings.plist file:

/Users/username/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/Microsoft Office
2008 settings.plist

Remove all office2008...pkg receipts in these folders:

1) /Library/Receipts

2) In the Finder toolbar under Go, paste in this path:

/private/var/db/receipts

Hope this helps!
