Problems launching Word 2000

When I launch Word 2000 I get the familiar message below.

"Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience."

This product has been installed for some time, so this is not an install
issue.
I uninstalled office and I upgraded to the latest service pack (SP3) with no
luck.

Other Office products work just fine.

The OS is Windows XP Home addition.

have you tried renaming Normal.dot yet? Locate and rename Normal.dot to
Normal.old and then try opening Word.
