Problems opening a word file

My PC crashed while I was writing in Word 2000. I am
running windows Millenium. I cant seem to retrieve my
file. An error message says I need to check the file
permissions for the documents I am seeking. The document
name or path is not valid. The file is still visible in my
documents and I saved all the document before it crashed.
Why cant I get it open?
