Problems opening old work after upgrading office 2000

Screwed by upgrade

I upgraded my office 2000 software and now I can't open
many of my old excel invoices. I can't believe I went
through all the trouble of upgrading and now all my old
work can't be opened. Anybody have a fast fix? I am not
receptive to solutions that require me to stop running my
business to learn how to become a geek.

What exactly happens when you try to open old work?
