Problems opening onenote onepkg file

Hi, I saved a onenote notebook and it produced a onepkg file, I then tried to
open that in the same version of onenote a bit later, and it says:
This file does not appear to be a onenot file....
Do you want to try and open it anyway. Onenote may need to repair the file
in order to read it.
When I try to open it says
This file is from a different version of onenote there may be a converter on
the net.
As far as I know I am using the same version of onenote, and I cant see how
the file could have got corrupted.
Does anyone know how I can get this file to open

Is the package being opened on the same PC as which it was saved?

Version numbers can be checked from the menu: Help-About Microsoft Office
OneNote.
