Problems opening ".ppt" file

K

Kelcom

Hey,

I have Win XP and 2003 version of MS PowerPoint. My daughter creates her
own powerpoint presentations for school on my computer with my software.
They have the ".ppt" extension and open up fine.

However, I have someone send me a MS PowerPoint presentation from work with
the ".ppt" extension and I can't open it. The error message says it
Powerpoint can't read the file. What gives? I found spaces in the name and
tried renaming the file, without spaces, but that didn't work.

Any ideas?

Have you installed Service Pack 1? PowerPoint 2003 had a lot of problems
like this, but Service Pack 1 takes care of many of them.

I think I did. How can I tell if I did? I tried to install the latest
service pack two and couldn't get my computer to work, so I undid that
installation.

This is Service Pack 1 for Office, not for Windows. Open PowerPoint and
go to the Help menu and choose about PowerPoint. It should list SP1 at
the end of your version number if you have installed Service Pack 1.

If you don't have Service Pack 1 installed, go to Help > Check for Updates and
follow the links for "Check for Updates".

Also with Powerpoint 2003 there was the problem with Norton Antivirus, with
opening newly created files.
If none of the other suggestions fix your problem try unchecking the Protect
Office Documents feature. its in the misc options

lost?
