Problems opening website with FrontPage 98

Hello.

I am trying to run FrontPage 98 using Windows XP Professional. Before
posting, I checked the usenet archives and came across problems similar
to ours, but none of the suggestions there have helped with our
problem. If this question comes up a lot, I apologize, but I did try
to search the archives first!

I open FrontPage Explorer. I am prompted to open our site, and I'm
asked for our username and password. It's after I enter that info that
I get the message:

[FrontPage Explorer]

Cannot open file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Front Page\Version
3.0\temp\_vti_inf.html" for writing.

Now, I can log in as the system administrator and access the site just
fine. However, two of the computers we have tried to load the program
on give us this error. Most of the computers that are similarly
configured do not have this problem.

We have tried:

Uninstalling and reinstalling the software
Actually copying the file mentioned in the error message from another
computer to that folder
Making sure that the users whose computers are affected are listed as
authors in FrontPage's preferences

I have also looked for temporary files to clean out, and *.web files,
but none seem to exist on the computers in question. There is no
FrontPageTempDir that I can find, or anything similar.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Charles
