Problems Publishing -- everything goes

I've used FP for several years. Currently using FP2002 on a WinXP
system. I didn't think there was anything it could do to completely
bamboozle me until tonight.

When publishing a website, the Publish Web screen is open. Publish From
shows c:\documents and settings\all users\documents\my webs. To: is the
correct location. Contents of: shows correct web name and the files
listed in the left hand panel are correct. Include subwebs is not
checked. Options is set to Changed pages only. The right hand panel is
headed with the correct path to the website (i.e., http://mysite.com).

The problem is that everything in the folder C:\\documents...\my webs
gets published to that one website!

Also, and this is just a silly mistake I made by closing a window when I
didn't really mean to and I'm too frustrated right now to find the
answer in the help files, I like having the opening page in FP show me
Views / Folders / Navagation tree. Somehow I've managed to lose that
configuration and can only have Views / Folders OR Views / Nav tree.

The publishing everything is the real problem, though. Please, somebody?

If you have ..\My Webs open as a web, then FP will publish everything in it. If you have made
changes to Themes, shared borders or FP navigation structure, then all pages using these components
will be published.

If a folder is a subweb, it must have a globe on it, if it doesn't then it is just a folder within
the current open web.

If you have content that should not be part of your web, then it shouldn't be in the folder holding
the web.

to publish an individual file or a selection of files, select the files, then
right-click and select "Publish Selected Files"..

the publish feature is set up by default to 'publish everything' as you say -
everything within that web folder.
