Problems with layering of active windows with word or excel

Whenever I am using Word/Excel, and I go to print my document, the print
window comes up behind my active window. I then have to minimize my active
window to see the print options window. The task bar word instance will
flash (orange). Does anyone know how I can change the layering order of
opening windows ?
